To earn the "Digital Accessibility Data Visualization Champion" badge, recipients participated in a crowdsourcing competition focused on producing an accessible visualization using disability data collected by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation through the Global Burden of Disease study. Participants were expected to apply principles of inclusive design and digital accessibility in developing their visualization.
The competition aim was to raise awareness about:
• the importance of developing visualizations that adhere to recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices, such as providing alternative text descriptions for images, ensuring proper color contrast, using clear and concise labels, and implementing accessible navigation and interaction features.
• encouraging exploration of disability data, uncovering valuable insights and fostering a community of data-driven advocates for disability awareness.
This badge is a recognition of the recipients’ participation and efforts to promote equal access to information for all. WHO does not guarantee or endorse the output produced by participants in the competition.
